.) Putting coconut oil (or another safe lubricant) on your flanges will help to prevent cracked nipples.
.) DON’T SKIP NIGHT FEEDINGS!
.) Measure your nipples (or get fitted) for the correct size flange!
.) Being on the highest pump setting doesn’t necessarily mean more milk, sometimes it’s better to slow it down a bit!
.) Shop around for a pump and find what fits YOUR needs best!
.) Pump until you are empty, don’t just watch the clock
.) Keep your pump parts in the fridge between sessions to cut down on washing
.) Make sure you have a car charger if you are on the go often
.) Hand express milk during and after pumping to make sure you are completely empty!
.) Lay your milk bags flat in the freezer to save space and easier for transport in a cooler
.) Look into silicone inserts for your flanges if you are having issues with fit or pain
.) Drink lots of water!
.) Keep taking your prenatal vitamins
.) Purchase a hands free pumping bra!
.) Don’t leave home without your pump or supplies! You never know when you might need it! (or keep a manual hand pump in your car for emergencies!)
.) Make sure you have (at least) one set of extra pump parts
.) Read your pumps manual and do some research! Youtube is a great place to start!
.) Create a pumping schedule and (try to) stick to it!
.) Relax while pumping! Watch a funny show, read a book, talk to a friend (it makes it go faster and you actually get more milk when you are relaxed!)
.) Don’t go more than 3 hours in the beginning without pumping (realistically try to stay closer to every 2 hours)
