There are plenty of things you'll feel like you'll need at the hospital. It is like packing to move, you don't want to forget anything and feel like you need to be prepared for all possibilities.
My list for the hospital was 3 pages long... You read that right 3 PAGES LONG
Thats all good and dandy until you're admitted and have nothing with you...
It did make me realize a few things though. 1.) The hospital provides you with a TON of stuff for both you and baby. 2.) There is probably a local store where someone can stop for you if you are desperate and need something. 3.) Worst comes to worst, there is probably a gift shop in the hospital with basic necessities.
So here are a few bare necessities that you'll probably want with you no matter what.
1.) Hair supplies (hair ties, headband, etc.)- It is called labor for a reason, you are going to sweat, probably a lot, and wet, sticky hair will drive you NUTS. 2.) Your own pads- Your probably thinking "but my hospital supplies these!" Yes they do but most of the time they feel like sandpaper, not something you want after just having a baby! If you think you'll use the ones they provide, maybe just pack a few in case of an emergency. 3.) A reusable cup or water bottle- This is a two fold reason. First drinking water out of a styrofoam cup usually tastes pretty gross, and second its nice to have something from home. Plus if you have an insulated cup/water bottle, it will stay cold much longer! 4.) Something for your feet- Yes they give you grippy socks but if you have a favorite pair of flip flops or slippers, they are nice for walking the halls during labor or after when you are moving around taking care of baby. 5.) A Robe- If you choose to wear the gown they provide, they usually open in the back which leaves you pretty exposed. If you are choosing to breastfeed these are really nice for the accessibility to breastfeed after baby is born. 6.) Chapstick- The hospital is usually pretty dry, so having something for your lips is usually really helpful!
Sure there are tons of other things you could bring with you or will want to bring with you, but these are just a few of those "oversight items" that may make you a bit more relaxed and comfortable!
